In recent decades, fishing communities have suffered from the depletion of fishery resources and the deterioration of the basis of their livelihoods. They are moving from a situation of abundance to one of scarcity and, along the way, are losing the social fabric that held them together.

At NOS we are aware of this, which is why we work to create prosperous and resilient communities, with economic diversity, healthy ecosystems and recovered and abundant resources. To this end, we contribute to the development of individual and collective capacities to generate resilience, empowerment and inclusion, essential capacities to be able to restore themselves and the ecosystems, to generate diverse and regenerative economies.

Since 2008, NOS has been working in El Manglito, a fishing community within the city of La Paz, Baja California Sur. What we have achieved there is our greatest accomplishment.

In little more than a decade, El Manglito went from a situation of scarce fishery resources where illegal fishing abounded, disempowerment and low social capital, to a community that recovered the biodiversity of the resources of the La Paz inlet, to diversify its economy, creating and developing oyster and scallop farming, as well as nature-based tourism.

At NOS we use systems thinking to understand the system that communities are part of and how they themselves create their reality. We focus on fundamental solutions, not symptoms. From there we develop individual and collective skills so that communities can dialogue and create shared visions to achieve what they truly desire.

We also focus on creating sustainable businesses, developing the capabilities to make business plans, production processes, generate governance and effective management, so that they can achieve these shared visions.

At NOS, we reaffirm our long-term commitment to move forward, together with the community of El Manglito, towards prosperity, through the creation of capacities for the construction of social capital and the restoration of its environment to diversify its economy. In this way, we contribute to creating a better Mexico; that is our raison d'être.
