From a young age, life in the community of <strong>El Manglito<\/strong>in <strong>La Paz<\/strong>Baja California Sur, Baja California Sur, was marked by the <strong>fishing<\/strong> and the proximity to the <strong>marine ecosystems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She comes from a family of fishermen and her whole life has been related to the sea. Today, at the age of 28, she has turned that legacy into a vocation: she is <strong>tourist guide<\/strong> specializing in tours of <strong>protected natural areas<\/strong>where it promotes respect and conservation of the marine environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His story was shared on the podcast <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/altavozradio.mx\/#\/audioteca\/voces-del-mar-conservacion-y-tradiciones-pesqueras-del-noroeste-de-mexico\/mayte-guadalupe-penaloza-vazquez-2da-parte\">Voices from the Sea<\/a><\/strong>a collaboration between <strong>Loudspeaker Radio<\/strong> y <strong>NOS Sustainable Northwest<\/strong> which seeks to give a voice to those who live from and with the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-06-01-13-46-27.jpg?resize=768%2C1024&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1582\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-06-01-13-46-27.jpg?resize=768%2C1023&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-06-01-13-46-27.jpg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-06-01-13-46-27.jpg?resize=1153%2C1536&amp;ssl=1 1153w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-06-01-13-46-27.jpg?resize=9%2C12&amp;ssl=1 9w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-06-01-13-46-27.jpg?w=1200&amp;ssl=1 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>This is how a guidebook is born<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mayt\u00e9's entry into tourism was motivated by economic necessity, but over time she discovered that her work had a much greater value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">\"At the beginning it was a job to support the family expenses, personal expenses, my children's expenses. Then you realize that this is what you really like: the activity at sea, the wonders there are, the landscapes, what the sea offers us, such as dolphins and turtles. Every day is a very different spectacle, so that's when I started to get a little more interested in this activity,\" he says.<\/mark><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His training as a guide has been rigorous and constant. He has certifications such as the <strong>NOM09<\/strong>, <strong>sea notebook<\/strong>specialized courses to operate in protected areas, such as the <strong>Espiritu Santo Island <\/strong>and sighting areas of the <strong>whale shark<\/strong>. He has also taken training in first aid, group management, customer service, diving, mangroves and seabirds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"951\" height=\"960\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-05-07-15-30-45.jpg?resize=951%2C960&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1588\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-05-07-15-30-45.jpg?w=951&amp;ssl=1 951w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-05-07-15-30-45.jpg?resize=297%2C300&amp;ssl=1 297w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-05-07-15-30-45.jpg?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-05-07-15-30-45.jpg?resize=768%2C775&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/nos.org.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/PHOTO-2025-05-07-15-30-45.jpg?resize=12%2C12&amp;ssl=1 12w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 951px) 100vw, 951px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All this, he assures, allows him to offer safe, informative and deeply connected to nature tours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But beyond the technical knowledge, Mayt\u00e9 carries with her an experiential and emotional experience that transforms her tours into true learning experiences for those who accompany her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\">\"One day, when I had a lot of problems in my head and my mind was somewhere else, not focused on work, suddenly I was swimming with the whale shark and a dolphin came along. It was my turn to swim between a dolphin and a whale shark. For me it was a very nice experience, I even feel the connection in that the sea said: 'relax, everything will be fine, everything will flow'. It was something very beautiful.
